Devotion and relationship with the Lord

In the 4.3 verse, The Lord says that HE discussed about very secret Yogas with Arjuna because he (Arjuna) is a devotee and a friend. This verse is important and significant. The above mentioned verse implicitly means that to understand the essence and teaching of the Gita, 1stly, we need to be a perfect devotee. We must be submissive and receptive pupils. Submission is essential to be a devotee and learn the secret of secrets. Therefore, The Gita should be taken up in a spirit of devotion.

2ndly, a direct relationship with the Supreme Lord is essential. Arjuna was a friend of the Lord. Every living being has a particular relationship with the Supreme Personality of Godhead. But unfortunately we are unable to feel our specific eternal touch with the Lord. We need to re-assert ourselves and feel us in touch with the Lord. Being a devotee and in a relationship with the Lord, we will experience a whole new world of peace while we read the Gita.

The purpose of the Gita is to pull out mankind from the clutches of Ignorance and uncontrolled Passion.

In The Gita we find Arjun as the essence of affectionate attachment and devotion. He was a great warrior. But when he saw that to earn his victory, he needed to kill his cousins, revered teachers and other very close relatives, he collapsed and sank in the sadness. He was trembling and his eyes were brimming with tears. He lost all of his energy and control on himself. He thought of leaving the battlefield. He didn’t want to kill his opponents rather was ready to live a beggar’s life in the forest. A bewildered and absolutely depressed Arjun turned to Krishn. The Supreme Lord opened the door of transcendental knowledge before his devotee and the dearest friend.

I have learned from The Gita that Virtue, Passion and Ignorance are the three basic roots. These three roots are responsible to make us a Divine or Devilish. Here ignorance implies pride, lust, anger and impure wisdom. In all the human being, divine and devilish energies are present and create inner conflict ultimately leading to bewilderment. Bewilderment causes indecisiveness and illusion in our mind in every step of our lives and we are left with no clear vision of what is right and what is wrong. Every one of us is suffering from different reasons. Out of so many sufferers, very few want to know why we are suffering.

Arjun’s dilemma and sadness is a common phenomenon in our daily lives. But the difference with us is that Arjuna was intelligent enough to look up and inquire about why he had been put into such an awkward situation.

If the tears of grief and disheartenment lead us to seek the absolute truth of life, we can learn to enjoy the freedom from uncontrolled passion and ignorance. Uncontrolled passion and ignorance are the source of sorrows and dejection. When we sink in the huge bout of sadness, The God is surely knocking at our doors. All the illusions start slowly to burn into illumination of eternal joy.

Desires transform into love for all. Ego and pride make way for love and humbleness. And gradually a bright eternality is exposed to us !!!!!
